An Exquisite Corpse
As part of the Amman Contemporary Dance Festival organized by the National Centre for Culture and Arts (NCCA) King Hussein Foundation, we proudly present Un cadavre exquis II, a solo dance performance by Pau Aran, a work dedicated to encounters, to the direct link between ancestry and gratitude.
Inspired by the movement and gesture craftmanship in dance, this piece explores the necessity of recognizing the places, beings and experiences we interact with, today, as the origin of our roots. The identity emerges. It needs to appreciate and be taken into consideration. The images go by, and the characters happen. All of them have come. Visible or not, tangible or not.
Pau talks about himself, his family, about the things that move him, from his career as a ballroom dance competitor to modern jazz, up to his pertinence to the Pina Bausch company in Wuppertal. At the same time, his body does not describe these situations but dances, with a free appearance, the emotions that they evoke in him. Aran’s movements are communicated throughout every fiber, transforming the dance into corporeal poetry with many and very diverse registers.
Pau Aran is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher. Born on the Catalan-Mediterranean coasts, Pau started his career as a professional actor with ballroom dance and modern jazz, before his interests and experiences expanded to include many other ways of expressive movement.
He has danced in more than 25 of the Pina Bausch productions, and keeps dancing with the internationally famous Tanztheater Wuppertal – Pina Bausch as a guest. As an independent artist since 2013, Pau has developed his personal language of movements through interdisciplinary collective efforts around the world and offering creative workshops with and for various artists and communities.
