Grator

Grator Mikel Ponce

Instituto Cervantes in Amman is participating in the tenth edition of the Amman Image Festival organised by Darat Al-Tasweer under the theme «Gratitude», with the participation of the Spanish photojournalist Miquel Ponce.

Ponce will be opening his exhibition entitled «Grator» that displays photojournalism images of different situations captured during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Synopsis: When the state of alarm was declared due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were all overwhelmed with confusion as no one was prepared for such a situation. As photojournalists, were considered “essential staff” and they were part of the first professional groups that went out to the streets to report what was happening.

Despite the misinformation and the chaos that were accumulating, they immediately realized the amount of commitment, courage and good work being put on the shoulders of the health care workers as well as the different humanitarian and governmental organizations, including the Red Cross, the army and the representatives of the Church, as well as many of the civilian volunteers and all the people who helped raise funds to support NGOs, patients and the families that were affected by the lack of resources.

Much of their daily work as photojournalists had to do with covering those stories and making them accessible by the public. Hope this small piece of documentation shows how much GRATITUDE he has to everyone who sacrificed and risked their lives by being on the front line during the early phase of the pandemic, despite the prevailing uncertainty and doubts about the virus and the absence of means of protection against it.
