El soldao

The final dedication of El soldao by Alejandro Cabrera “To all those places where times are mixed and everything happens simultaneously” perfectly condenses the essence of this film, in which the mixture of formats and shots allows to generate a dialogue between different times in a deeply nostalgic gesture. With a documentary approach, the abundance of close-up shots shapes a series of biographies with which to sketch an image of community.

Synopsis: El soldao is the portrait of Francisco, an Andalusian emigrant, who every year returns to his hometown in Córdoba. This time the house where he once lived awaits him lonely, empty since his mother died. This is an intimate and personal story that explores rural depopulation while inviting us to try to discover how places that only exist in us build us.
