Día del Libro

Día del Libro Instituto Cervantes de Albuquerque

Instituto Cervantes de Albuquerque celebrates International Book Day with an outdoor event open to the public, featuring a variety of activities. The centerpiece of the event will be a fair featuring booths from independent Albuquerque bookstores offering books in both Spanish and English. The center will present the first 50 attendees with a complimentary book and a rose.

Other activities include: a screening of the Spanish film El jugador de ajedrez (2017), which features an in-person discussion with producer, Juan Antonio Casado—an event organized by the Resource Center of the Education Attaché’s Office at the Embassy of Spain in Washington; a poetry slam session hosted by the local group Chicharra Press, featuring five local poets; a free demonstration Spanish class, coinciding not only with Book Day but also with Spanish Language Day—both celebrated on April 23rd; a poetry reading in Spanish; a flamenco performance by the National Institute of Flamenco in Albuquerque; and a mariachi performance titled "Viva México", presented in collaboration with the Consulate General of Mexico inside the Wells Fargo Theater, which is adjacent to the Book Day event site.

The Consulate will also provide additional activities designed to foster a love of reading and books among children, as well as a children's books and bicycle raffle. Furthermore, guided tours led by subject-matter experts will be offered for both the NHCC Art Museum—which currently features two special exhibitions—and the NHCC Main Library.
