Chinamperos: maintaining ancestral farming practices

Chinamperos: maintaining ancestral farming practices Rodrigo Jardón

Director and photographer Rodrigo Jardón takes us to the chinampas, the lake areas surrounding Mexico City, whose agricultural tradition and survival as a natural area are suffering the effects of their proximity to one of the largest cities in the world.

Continuing with his observational cinema and his commitment to discovering human and natural spaces that are not in the media, this Mexican visual artist shows his determination for accurate documentation in this commissioned film.

Synopsis: The canals of Xochimilco, south of Mexico City, are the last vestiges of a vast agricultural system based on floating islands called chinampas, which were key to the construction of the ancient Aztec Empire. By listening to the stories of its inhabitants, we can witness how this agricultural technique has survived water shortages, natural disasters, and climate change, passing on its importance from generation to generation and highlighting the importance of culture in preserving our environment.
