An Impassive Sky

An Impassive Sky Nacho Reina

An Impassive Sky is an exercise in historical memory directed by filmmaker David Varela, featuring a group of young people who debate, drawing on real witness testimonies, the events that took place during a sweltering July of 1937 at the Battle of Brunete, in Madrid.

Synopsis: Brunete, in the western outskirts of Madrid, was the site of one of the bloodiest and most devastating battles of the Spanish Civil War. A group of teenagers investigates, recites and debates the testimonies of the soldiers who fought in that terrible battle, making the experiences of the veterans and the fallen their own. Meanwhile, the film mutates, adapts and takes shape through the eyes of a new generation that is open to dialogue and critically revisits the history and historical memory of a country in a state of permanent polarisation.
