Malaspina Awards SRAP

The Instituto Cervantes of Sydney collaborates with the Spanish Embassy in Australia and the Association of Spanish Researchers in Australia-Pacific (SRAP) to announce the nominations for the 6th Malaspina Awards. The Malaspina Prize is awarded annually to an organization and an individual that has made an important contribution to the advancement of relations between both countries in science, research, culture and/or technology. This year, the award will be presented at a special Scientific Diplomacy event at the Shine Dome of the Australian Academy of Sciences in Canberra, on Friday 17 November 2023 where the name of the winner will be revealed.

This award is named after the sailor Alejandro Malaspina, who led a scientific expedition under the Spanish flag between 1789 and 1794, carrying out studies of natural history, cartography, ethnography, astronomy, hydrography and medicine in Latin America, the Pacific and Australia. The VI Malaspina Award has been sponsored by Navantia Australia. The renowned Spanish sculptor Óscar Martín de Burgos is the author of the award statuette. Applications are open to any Australian or Spanish citizen and/or organization registered in either of these two countries. In the case of individual applications, the country of residence does not affect the application.
