Megafloods, plate tectonics and soil erosion Instituto Cervantes Sídney

Dr.Daniel García-Castellanos from the Higher Council for Scientific Research  (CSIC) and the Jaume Almera Institute of Terra Sciences  (ICTJA) presents this conference on Mega-floods, plate tectonics and soil erosion .

In this conference he explains how the Mediterranean Sea became disconnected from the world's oceans and mostly desiccated by evaporation about 5.6 million years ago during the Messinian salinity crisis. The Atlantic waters found a way through the present Gibraltar Strait and rapidly refilled the Mediterranean 5.33 million years ago.
