Bewildered Ants
Bewildered Ants may be Mercedes Moncada's most realistic work, although her poetic constants remain present. It is an exploration of a specific conflict (several labour protests that took place in the Bay of Cádiz) that ultimately reflects on a global level on the current workers' struggle within an ultra-capitalist framework. Synopsis: The spectre of closure haunts an aircraft factory. Meanwhile, its workers — both men and women — discover with dismay that their greatest threat is the loss of direct employment and job security. They know what future awaits them because they have seen it: the subcontracting labour model has been impacting the bodies, souls and lives of those who work in the naval shipyards of this bay for decades.
