Let's talk about refugees and asylum-seeking women in Australia Carolina Gottardo

Australia has some of the best and the worst refugee and asylum policy in the world. This talk will refer to the global crisis with forced migration, focusing specifically on the situation of refugees and people seeking asylum in Australia. The presentation will consider a gender perspective highlighting the challenges faced by women seeking asylum and migrant women in vulnerable situations. There will be time for questions and answers following the presentation. About the speaker. Carolina Gottardo is a lawyer and economist with more than 20 years experience working on human rights issues specialising on asylum, migration and gender. Carolina is currently the director of the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Australia and was previously the director of a migrant women’s rights organisation in the UK. She also served as the National Policy Director of the Refugee Council of Australia. Carolina has ample governance experience and has been part of boards in London, Brussels, Bangkok, Bogota and Sydney. She holds a Masters in Development Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Carolina works closely with the United Nations on migration, asylum and gender matters.
