Spanish Film Festival Presents: Reel restrospectiva: Ana Belén
Acclaimed Spanish singer, actress and director, Ana Belén has recorded more than 35 albums and appeared in more than 40 films and 30 theatrical productions.A professional singer by 13, she became a teen movie star starring in a string of on-screen musicals. As an adult, her acting roles have been diverse debuting in Cervante’s 'Numancia' and taking the lead in 1970’s film 'Españolas en Paris'. She continued her musical career alongside her acting roles releasing several popular and award-winning albums. In 1991, she extended her career to filmmaking, marking her directorial debut with the acclaimed 'Cómo Ser Mujer y No Morir en el Intento'. Some of her awards include being distinguished by the French government in 1986 for her contribution to culture, receiving the Gold Medal in 1995 by the Spanish Cinematographic Academy for her diverse roles in motion pictures, winning the Latin Grammy Special Prize for musical excellence in 2015, and most recently The Spanish Film Academy honoured Belén’s lifelong career in acting and filmmaking with an Honorary Goya Award at this year’s awards.Instituto Cervantes Sydney is proud to bring this retrospective to Australia. All films will screen in 35mm.
