On 17th May 1863, the first specimen of the work "Cantes Gallegos", by Rosalía de Castro, was published in Vigo. For this reason the Royal Galician Academy instituted since 1963 this day as the Day of the Galician Letters. A celebration to honor those people who stand out for their literary creation in the Galician language or for their defense of this language.
In May, the Gabriela Mistral Library dedicates its point of interest to works by Castelao (Rianjo, 29/01/1886 – Buenos Aires, 07/01/1950) was a narrator, essayist, playwright, draughtsman and Spanish politician. Castelao, who is considered one of the fathers of Galician nationalism, would become the most important figure in the Galician culture of the XX Century.
