We close the year on our Vimeo channel with the celebration of The Shortest Day [ED+C], an initiative that recognizes the format and expressive possibilities of short films. For this edition, we invited the Rural FilmFest festival to curate a program that would confront us with the growing concern for sustainability and the care of our planet—an urgent demand of the current Anthropocene. The four short films that make up this year's cycle, titled “Rural Cinema as a Tool for Wisdom and Understanding,” spark different ideas and use diverse tones to bring us closer to places across Spain and Mexico, as well as to the experiences and cultures these territories have preserved for centuries. The short films in this showcase invite us to embrace new ways of shaping these environments without intruding on or damaging them. Without a doubt, the program as a whole conveys the idea that we must act—and that perhaps there is still time to change things.
