Spanish Day at the National Library of Australia
On May 5, the Instituto Cervantes in Sydney celebrates the Spanish Language Day, the second most spoken language in the world by number of native speakers. It will be a special event at the National Library of Australia and it will count with the participation of the Heads of Mission of the Embassies Spanish-speaking countries accredited in Australia (Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela).
This is the second time that an Australian public institution has hosted an event for Spanish Day, and it highlights the importance that this language is acquiring in Australia in recent years, where Spanish-speaking communities are increasingly numerous. The Instituto Cervantes will participate in the event by giving the opening speech and will donate a copy of the book "La Celestina" to the National Library of Australia.
