The Benengeli festival is a unique event in the Spanish language due to its global dimension. During the week of its duration, from 10 to 14 June 2024, the Instituto Cervantes network is activated as a real brain of the language—a formidable neural network that expresses the best ideas, in the best words, of a representative set of Spanish-language literature that travels the five continents during those days.
This year, 2024, the Benengeli festival will grow even more; there are now 12 cities in the world where its activities take place and in which we have in-person guests: Sydney, Manila, Budapest, Utrecht, Brussels, Toulouse, Manchester, Madrid, Casablanca, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, and Belo Horizonte. In addition, several cities in Oceania will offer several pre-events throughout the month of May as a prelude.
Over 110 authors from 25 countries discuss, reflect, write, and speak during these dates in and about our language. Some talk in front of the public, and others through the airwaves, media images, and the internet. This global festival is an exceptional opportunity to reaffirm the value of the Spanish language and the need to care for it and make it the best tool for creation and reflection.
Voices of great aesthetic and generational diversity that address this year's central theme: "Literature: humour or tragedy", from which they reflect on whether these old categories are still valid in contemporary creation in the Spanish language or if it is the nuances and crossovers between the two that mark the current imagination.
The only literary festival that covers the five continents welcomes you.
