Zarzuela, from Barbieri to our days
Within the framework of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, the Instituto Cervantes New York presents this program along with the association Zarzuela por el mundo, based in Madrid and New York, to develop in November and December 2023. Different formats: recitals, lectures and masterclasses. This year is the bicentennial birth of Francisco Asenjo Barbieri (Madrid, August 3rd, 1823 - February 19th, 1894), Spanish composer and music specialist, considered the father of the traditionally Spanish musical theater genre, zarzuela.
