Tenth International Congress on Historical Links between Spain and the Americas

Tenth International Congress on Historical Links between Spain and the Americas CCNY

“Transatlantic transformations: histories, democracies and artificial intelligence”, this will be this year's theme.

The Franklin Institute of the University of Alcalá, the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies of the City College of New York and the Instituto Cervantes of New York, join forces for the tenth consecutive year in the organization of this congress, through proposals in various disciplines and areas of study. Special emphasis will be placed on interdisciplinary approaches to the links between Spain and the Americas.

The 10th International Congress on Historical Links between Spain and the Americas will focus on the broad connections between Spain and the Americas, exploring these ties from diverse perspectives: political, social, economic and cultural. The event will also address contemporary challenges facing the international community, such as the conflict in Ukraine, climate change, and evolving relations in the Asia-Pacific region. Discussions will be framed in an Atlantic perspective, with a special focus on relations between Spain, the Americas and the Caribbean. The overall objective of the conference is to offer new answers to current problems, without forgetting the historical relevance of more than 500 years of relations between Spain and the Americas.

On April 30 and May 1, two figures from the Hispanic world will give speeches at the Cervantes Institute in New York. Speakers will include: David Jeruzalmi, Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the City College of New York (CCNY) and José Miguel Martínez Torrejón, Distinguished Professor Queens College).
