A Journey to the New World
Spain’s Reina Sofía School Orchestra makes its US debut under the baton of conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada. The young musicians are joined by members of the Colombian Youth Philharmonic. The program opens with the vivid colors of Albéniz’s El Puerto, from Iberia, Book I, followed by Barber’s lyrical Violin Concerto, featuring French violinist Renaud Capuçon. The evening concludes with Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World”—a work that premiered at Carnegie Hall in 1893.
