A Poetic of Resistance: A Look at the Work of Nivaria Tejera

The Cuban-Canarian writer Nivaria Tejera (1929-2016) dedicated her life to combating the abuse of power with a unique poetic writing. Her texts reflect the political evolution of a writer who lived through three dictatorships and a fifty-year exile in the city of Paris. Nivaria Tejera's need to write emerges during the Spanish Civil War and culminates in her condemnation of the Castro regime, to which she was added cultural until 1965. María Hernández-Ojeda, professor at Hunter College and specialist in relations between the Canary Islands and Latin America, will take a tour of the political thought of Nivaria Tejera reflected particularly in his narrative work, analyzing his thought in four texts: El barranco, Sonámbulo del sun, flee the spiral and I wait for the night to dream of you, Revolution.
