The elements of wine: place

The place where the vines are planted is considered one of the most important factors in determining the quality and personality of a wine. It is at the heart of the European system of regional appellations, protecting wines deemed to be different due to the area where their grapes grow. Three important factors are at play here: the composition of the soil, its drainage capacity, and the altitude of the vineyard. In this seminar we will examine the impact of these factors and taste wines made with the same varieties growing at different altitudes and in different soils, from clay to slate through granite, limestone and sand.
