The banks of the Duero River are home to the prestigious Ribera del Duero and Toro wine appellations. However, led by the astonishing quality and success of Mariano García’s Mauro wines, a growing number of wineries and winemakers –including stars like Peter Sisseck, Alejandro Fernández and Abadía Retuerta— started crafting high quality wines outside these wine regions, in a similar fashion to Italian winemakers who made groundbreaking Supertuscan wines disregarding traditional appellations’ rules decades ago. In this seminar we will taste the best of these new non-D.O. Castilian wines, and compare them with stars from Ribera del Duero, Toro and Rioja.
