Soil Searching

Along with climate, soil composition is one of the pillars of the definition of terroir. Thus, the question of how much of the personality of a wine is due to the soils where the vineyards are planted is one of the most interesting –and also a very controversial topic in the wine world. This is also especially true in Spain now, where several leading wine regions have embarked on a process of classification of their soils and vineyards. In this fascinating seminar we will taste wines made with the same varieties growing in different soils, from clay to slate through granite, limestone and sand, to explore the impact of soil composition in wine.
