Dr. Porfirio Rodríguez is a literature teacher in the East Ramapo School District, New York, where he teaches Hispanic literature to immigrant students and organizes cultural activities for the Spanish-speaking community. With a master's degree and doctorate in education from Teachers College, Columbia University, he has worked in the New York education system and has taught Spanish to diplomats at the United Nations. Rodriguez has been recognized for his contributions to the Hispanic community. His research addresses issues of raciolinguistics, translanguaging, critical pedagogies, and the relationship between language and identity in the United States, influenced by authors in these fields.
