La Lupe
Also known as “The Queen of Latin Soul”, she was the first Latin singer to perform at the Carnegie Hall and the Madison Square Garden. Her singing style, full of intensity and with a certain outlandish touch, quickly turned her into a popular figure in the city. Her music was included in the soundtrack of films like Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and Law of Desire by Pedro Almodóvar and inspired novels such as La isla de los amores infinitos, by D.Chaviano, Con el Diablo en el cuerpo by R. Darío Durán, the film La Malaby by L. Rosado & P. Perez and the East 140th street in the Bronx was named La Lupe Way after her. Presented by the norable cultural critic Armando López.
