Introduction to Silbo Gomero - Basic Technique
As part of the TRIAD DIALOG exhibition, which includes work by the Canarian artist, Yapci Ramos, that connects with her ancestral culture, we offer a silbo gomero workshop. The silbo is an ancestral language that crosses mountains and valleys, and is a unique form of communication on the island of La Gomera (Canary Islands). It has the characteristic of being able to adapt to different languages. In this introductory workshop, we will explore the basics of whistling. During the session, you will learn about its main characteristics and technique. We will also see how you can paraphrase in any language using whistling. We will end with a short outdoor practice to test what you have learned. This workshop does not aim to make you master the technique, but to offer you a first approach to the art of the silbo gomero.
