The Instituto Cervantes New York and the North American Academy of the Spanish Language (ANLE) are honored to present the Second Conference on Hispanism in the United States, a forum for reflection and dialogue on the past, present, and future of Hispanism in the country.
The program will feature a keynote lecture by Professor Francisco Moreno-Fernández and two panels moderated by Patricia López-Gay and Miguel Ángel Zapata. Both the keynote and the panels will explore different stages in the development of Hispanism in the United States.
During the conference, the ANLE National Award “Enrique Anderson Imbert” will be presented, one of the highest honors bestowed for intellectual work in Spanish in the United States. This year’s recipients are poet Carmen Boullosa and Professor Fernando Reimers. The Enrique Anderson Imbert Award, or National Award of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language (ANLE), was established to recognize the professional careers of individuals who, through their scholarship, work, and creative contributions, have advanced the knowledge and dissemination of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture in the United States.
Finally, a plaque will be presented to Carlos E. Paldao, former director of ANLE, in recognition of his career and his ten years of service as coordinator and secretary of the award.
