The 1st Annual Congress of Instituto Cervantes in New York, under the general title Language and identity: linguistic variation and social equality, is envisaged as a forum for specialists in the areas of linguistics, culture, science and technology, politics and economics, with language as a common thread. The aim is to discuss, debate and reflect on the current situation of the Spanish language in the world in the many fields and environments in which it is present. The Annual Congress of the Instituto Cervantes in New York includes an academic program and a cultural program and aims to analyse, through several thematic axes, the relationship between language and society. Several exhibitions and a play will be part of the cultural program of the congress.
