Tributes: Jorge Luis Borges
We launch the “Tributes” series with an evening dedicated to Jorge Luis Borges, one of the fundamental writers of world literature and winner of the Cervantes Prize in 1979. His literary legacy, marked by the exploration of labyrinths, mirrors, infinite libraries and the nature of fiction, continues to inspire generations of readers and writers. To analyze his impact and his relevance, the Argentine writer Patricio Pron, currently a New York Public Library Fellow living in Spain, will talk with Hernán Diaz, also Argentine, novelist and professor at Columbia University. Patricio Pron, author of works such as “El espíritu de mis padres sigue subiendo en la lluvia” and “Mañana tendremos otros nombres” (Premio Alfaguara de Novela 2019), has explored in his literature memory, identity and the construction of reality, themes that dialogue with the work of Borges. Hernán Diaz, recognized for his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “Trust” (Fortuna in Spanish), which has become an international phenomenon, shares with Borges an interest in metafiction, narrative fragmentation and the questioning of truth in literature. This conversation will be a unique opportunity to rediscover Borges through two of the most prominent writers of contemporary Spanish-language literature and explore how his legacy continues to illuminate literature today.
