Meet Pedro G. Romero

Meet Pedro G. Romero Documental musical "De caballos y guitarras", de Pedro G. Romero

The Instituto Cervantes in New York and CARA (Center for Art, Research and Alliances) present on March 19 a meeting with Pedro G. Romero, winner of the 2024 National Visual Arts Award, in which the artist will reflect on his film work and his unique perspective on the moving image.

A key figure in Spanish contemporary art, Pedro G. Romero has developed an interdisciplinary oeuvre that encompasses research, performance, cultural criticism and film. His work challenges the boundaries between disciplines and examines the tensions between tradition and the avant-garde, especially in the context of flamenco and popular culture.

As part of the meeting, the film “Of Horses and Guitars” (2024) will be screened, a musical, a reflection on looking, on trying to escape an anthropocentric gaze and also on looking itself in cinema. Basically, it is a film about horses, about a concert of guitars for horses that took place in Bramante's Tempietto in Rome, a true emblem of the ideas of window, perspective and reason, which determine a way of looking that has become hegemonic. In this work, Pedro G. Romero explores music as a symbolic battlefield where history, politics and cultural resistance converge.

Jordana Mendelson, director at Espacio de Culturas - KJCC (NYU) will present the film and moderate the Q&A..

This activity is part of a multidisciplinary project that CARA is developing with Pedro G. Romero and sound artist Niño de Elche this spring in New York. An exceptional opportunity to delve into the vision of one of the most singular creators of our time.
