Iron in Havana's architecture
In collaboration with the Cuban Cultural Center of New York we want to organize a talk on the architecture of Havana, with architect and researcher Ileana Perez Drago. The lecture will address the importance of iron in Havana's colonial architecture, highlighting the discovery and analysis of 19th century European ironwork catalogs and their influence on the construction and ornamentation of the city. Likewise, relevant historical aspects will be explored, such as the procurement of metals in the first centuries of the colony, the work of the guilds and blacksmiths' workshops, and comparisons with several Spanish cities. This meeting will offer an enriching perspective on the intersection between art, architecture and history, providing a detailed vision of the technical and aesthetic processes that characterized the use of iron in the urban environment of colonial Havana.
