Ternura (Tender), 100 years
GarpIn 1924, Gabriela Mistral's “Ternura” appeared, after “Desolación” (1922) and “Lecturas para mujeres” (1924). Part of the critics have indicated that “Ternura” has been scarcely read in comparison with the author's other poetry books or that it is “Gabriela Mistral's worst read book”. According to Mauricio Ostria, this lack of attention was due, on the one hand, to the partial and early dissemination of Ternura in works for children. In 2024, the Gabriela Mistral Foundation published a new edition of the Chilean Nobel Prize winner's collection of poems with the aim of disseminating the work more widely and encouraging a rereading of it. The Cervantes Institute joins this celebration by supporting the organization of a literary recital with poetry readings in Spanish, Portuguese, German and Tamazight, Basque, Guarani and Vietnamese.
