That Eternal Admiration. Alicia de Larrocha and Victòria dels Àngels Centennial. Fundación Victoria dels Angels

We are celebrating Women’s Month with the launching of the new exhibit "That eternal admiration. Alicia de Larrocha and Victoria de los Ángeles Centennial", a tribute to the brilliant career of two artists and excellent musicians who were also very good friends. The commissioner of the exhibition tells us, “it was most likely that Alicia and Victoria would never have met. They were both born in Barcelona, in 1923, in different neighborhoods, within families of different origins..., but music united them.”

Their friendship was forged in the early 1940s, in the middle of the post-war period, and will last a lifetime. "With these flowers go my great esteem and that eternal admiration for your art and your willpower," Victoria wrote to Alicia in 1989, in a note that she sent along with a bouquet to a hotel in New York.

Her admiration is today our admiration for two exceptional women who continue to inspire generations of musicians. The exhibition, overflowing with the artists' personal objects, materials never previously exhibited and unprecedented surprises, proposes a life journey with many points and spaces in common, from childhood in Barcelona and the first meeting, to the present.

The opening of the inauguration will feature a recital by soprano Mercedes Gancedo and pianist Michal Biel, who will perform works by Granados, de Falla and Montsalvatge.
