14 is the new 12
Alcohol levels are a hot topic in today’s wine world. When one looks at the top wines of yesteryear, they rarely show alcohol levels above 12%. Today, even wines from cooler areas seldom have less than 14%. lcohol and some reach more than 17%. Some wineries claim that to achieve the ripeness they want they need at least 14%. Others blame it on climate change or on the dominant style of bigger, bolder wines that, attributed to Parker’s preference, has dominated the fine wine world in the last decades. Still some others believe that alcohol level is less important if it is integrated and the wine is well balanced. In this tasting we will address this heady debate and taste representative wines.
