Spain Translated: A Conversation about Literature and Translation

Spain Translated: A Conversation about Literature and Translation Instituto Cervantes New York

Lorca is translated to English; Galdos is not. Which Spanish authors are translated into English and published in the US, and why? And why does it matter? In this talk, award-winning Spanish novelist and poet Marta Sanz and North American translator Katie King will examine how the digitalization of global culture has created a new market of readers for Spain translated into English. Using specific examples from Sanz's work translated by King, they will illustrate the joys and challenges of the creative and rigorous work of translating complex and artistic texts from one language to another.
