WAK’A, the origin of Andean fashion

WAK’A, the origin of Andean fashion Adrián ILave Inca

The Embassy of Peru in India, in collaboration with Instituto Cervantes, is organizing this experiential lecture on the origins of fashion before 1535, based on the studies of Andean Archaeo-fashion, which studies the ancient lifestyle of the Andes in order to understand ancient Inca and pre-Inca fashion. The speaker, Adrián ILave Inka, founder of Kunpi, Andean Archaeological Fashion, will discuss the disappeared QONPI or KUNPI, the silk of the Incas described in Spanish chronicles and which remains a mystery to this day. He will also draw parallels between Inca imperial costumes, their syncretism during the viceroyalty of Peru, and their contemporary interpretations in rituals such as the Inti Raymi in Cusco.

This event will feature the presence of the main Wak'a, P'unchaw Enqa, the sacred oracular Sun in human form of the Incas, which was sent to Spain in the 16th century by Viceroy Toledo and disappeared, and which has now been reconstructed after 500 years. During this talk, we will have a live performance by two volunteer models, who will be wearing the “Mascapaicha” (the woven crown of Emperor Sapa Inca) and the “Iñaca” (the imperial headdress of the Mama Qoyas queens).
