Pride Month is a commemorative month, which takes place in June each year and in which special attention is paid to the emancipation, respect and acceptance of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender, transsexual, transvestite, intersex or agender people as well as asexual or aromantic. On June 30th, as part of the Pride Month celebrations, New Delhi center in collaboration with the Kaivalya Plays theater group will organize an “Improv Jam”, a theatrical improvisation session focused on women and the queer community.
This "Improv Jam" consists of a series of theatrical games intended to create a safe space where women and the LGBTQ+ community can feel safe being themselves, get to know each other, and play and collaborate together.
Objective:
• Use improvisational theater games to create a safe space for the queer community.
• Create a space for fun and play.
• Maintain space for connections and ever-growing ecosystem Session Sequence
• Talk about safety and improvisational theater (10 minutes)
• Escalate to improv games (focusing on breaking the ice and getting to know the group) (15 minutes)
• Improvisation games for further warm-up, focusing on spontaneity and story/character creation (20 minutes)
5 minute break
• Theme-based scene work (40-45 minutes)
• Improvising short forms based on suggestions from group/audience members (e.g. taking suggestions for a location and relationship for the players) The invitation here is to explore and immerse yourself in the queer world and experiences through your imagination and creativity.
• Sharing and closing circle (15 minutes)
In the past, Kaivalya Plays has collaborated with Instituto Cervantes on initiatives for the LGBTQ+ community, including a "hackathon" where they added Pride events in different Indian cities to Wikipedia and a night of performances together with the NGO Impulse at the Institute
