Perceptions of Art
How we perceive a work of art is very intimately linked to the relationship between what we see and feel and how we understand and interpret it from our own subjectivity. However, this perception is not universal; it varies as a function of one’s cultural, historical, political, social or gender context. This round table will address this complex question and discuss, in particular, those factors that lead us to attribute a certain value or meaning to a work of art, both from the western perspective as well as based on the Indian theory of Rasa.
