New Urgent Stylebook

New Urgent Stylebook Agencia EFE

As part of the presentation of the "New Urgent Stylebook" by the EFE Agency, Instituto Cervantes in New Delhi is organizing the round table "Invisible or victims: Information on women in India", wherein the discussion will focus on how the Indian media addresses the social, political and gender reality of the female population. In India, women make up 48% of the 1.438 billion inhabitants, but only comprise of 15% in Parliament, and do not even reach 10% of management positions in the media structure.

How can more women be integrated into senior editorial positions? How are they taken into account as sources? Is inclusive language sufficient to represent them? Who has the power to tell their stories? What can be done to ensure that news coverage is closer to reality and does not merely render women invisible or victimize them? What can the media in the most populous country in the world do to reduce one of the largest gender gaps in the world?

The round table will be moderated by Indira Guerrero (Journalist and Head of EFE News Agency in New Delhi), and panelists will be Julie Thekkudan (Activist and Expert, Equality Now for South Asia), T.K Rajalakshmi (Chief of Bureau, Frontline), Ashutosh (Foudning Editor of Satyahindi), and Javier Lascuráin (Journalist and Executive Coordinator of the book).

María Gil Burman, Director of Instituto Cervantes in New Delhi will present the event, and the closing remarks will be pronounced by Miguel  Ángel Oliver, President of Agencia EFE.
