Fragile Stength Fragile Strength

Fragile Strength is a curatorial project on male mental health aimed at challenging stereotypes, dismantling stigmas, and encouraging open conversations on a global scale.

Research shows that people with mental illnesses often face stigma, leading to them being treated or viewed less favorably due to their mental health challenges. This stigma has wide ranging negative effects, making it harder for them to access education, employment, housing, social support, and healthcare. It also adds to the burden of mental illness by causing loss of hope, self-esteem, and empowerment. One of the most significant impacts of stigma is that it prevents many from seeking mental health care.

The group art exhibition will involve the participation of artists from Spain (Mario Sánchez Navado), India (Chetan Bhakuni),  Haiti (Maksaens Denis),  USA (Reuben Hamlyn) and South Africa (Tsoku Maela).

The works on display goes into the journey of self-discovery and healing. The pieces portray the painful yet necessary step of shedding masks and facades, exposing the vulnerable self beneath. They navigate the turbulent process of anxiety and inner conflict, symbolizing a metamorphosis born from battling one’s own fears and insecurities. These narratives align closely with the theme of mental health, illustrating resilience and the beauty of growth through struggle.

The curator of the project is Nilanjan Chakravarty who would also be holding discussions on the topic to know the views of the public.
