The House of Bernarda Alba
The House of Bernarda Alba is a play in three acts written in 1936 by Federico García Lorca. It could not be premiered or published until 1945, in Buenos Aires. The House of Bernarda Alba is an intense and tragic work that explores themes such as oppression, sexual repression and the struggle for power in a patriarchal society. Through the story of Bernarda and her daughters, Lorca shows us how lack of freedom and repression can lead to despair and tragedy. This work reflects on the situation of women in the 20th century. Immersed in a patriarchal society, they cannot be free to make their own decisions, since they must comply with established social mandates. This repression is represented in the setting where the play takes place, the house. In this case the play would be done, for the first time, in Hindi so that it reaches the maximum number of people in India. The Director of the play is Mohit Tripathi, who belongs to the theater group Renaisstance Theater Society, whose actors will portray the main protagonists.
