India and Europe: a possible love story of art at the dawn of the avantgarde
Instituto Cervantes New Delhi, in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in India, hosts a talk with Indian art expert Eva Fernández Del Campo. The lecture will address the impact that Indian thought and art had on Europe at the dawn of modernity, highlighting the idealization and misunderstandings that this encounter gave rise to and emphasizing its important role in the development of avant-garde art.
About the speaker:
Eva Fernández del Campo is the first Spanish professor specializing in Asian art and has been a professor at the Complutense University of Madrid since 1997. Her research focuses on transculturality between East and West and the boundaries between art and craftsmanship. She has directed numerous projects, taught internationally, and conducted research stays in India and other prominent institutions. The author of an extensive body of work—including books, articles, and translations—she has also supervised doctoral theses and curated exhibitions. She currently coordinates the UCM's Specialist Degree in Indian Art and contributes to various cultural publications.
