Frank Báez
Frank Báez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, 1978) is a Dominican poet, narrator and chronicler. Author of the poetry collections Vase and other poems, The Marilyn Monroe of Santo Domingo, Postcards -which was published in seven countries and awarded the Salomé Ureña National Poetry Prize in 2009- Last night I dreamed that I was a DJ, This is the future you were waiting and The end of the world came to my neighborhood. He has also published narrative and essays. The volume of stories by him You pay the psychoanalysts was awarded with the Short Stories contest of the Santo Domingo International Book Fair in 2016. He published three books of chronicles that were collected in the volume The Festival trilogy. What the Sea Brought is his last non-fiction book and has been published in Puerto Rico and Colombia. He is one of the founders of The Little Man, the first Dominican spoken word band, which to date has released three albums and a live concert. He is a co-producer of the poetry show Ping Pong Podcast. Some of his books have been fully translated into English, Arabic and German. Recently, his collection of poems Last night I dreamed that I was a DJ has been translated into Dutch and the NRC newspaper placed it among the books of the year. In 2015 he was selected by two hundred academics to compose the anthology The Open Canon published by Visor, which brings together the most relevant poets born after 1971 in the language. In 2018 he was part of the Bogotá39-2017 list that brings together the most promising writers under 39 years of age.
