Creative Flamenco: From the studio to the stage

Creative Flamenco: From the studio to the stage Gadea San Román Mendiguren

Instituto Cervantes New Delhi is organizing a flamenco workshop with dancer and choreographer Gadea San Román. In this intensive three-day workshop, participants will learn basic techniques of rhythm, movement, and footwork to develop simple choreographic sequences with different “palos”.

A “palo” is a specific rhythm with a particular cadence and melody, as well as its own lyrics and musical tonality. Each “palo” is, in itself, a unique expression. The aim of the workshop is to understand and experience a creative process from its conception to its staging, using different “palos” to convey a specific message.

Flamenco is a language through which we can express emotions, intentions, and concepts, from the most basic to the most sophisticated. The workshop approximates what can be created as knowledge of the language increases, with the aim of encouraging the desire to deepen learning in order to express more and better.

On the last day, the workshop will take to the stage to end with a small sample of what has been created in front of the audience.
