Female Affairs

Female Affairs Alba González i Becerra

In February 2023, Meta Arts along with PART-Ensemble received Goethe-Institut’s International Coproduction Fund to produce ‘Female Affairs’ a music development programme focused on women composers from Europe and India. The purpose of this project is to establish new narratives around the gender gap in classical music composition. The project featured four composers from India and Europe who wrote five riveting compositions that were performed by the PART-Ensemble in Germany earlier in August this year. The PART-Ensemble along with the composers are an all-women music project that reinforces the ethos of equal and women-led music. One of the musicians of the PART-Ensemble is the Barcelona-origin Alba Gonzalez Becerra who, plays the viola. In December 2024, Alba will be touring India with the PART-Ensemble leading workshops and performing as part of the Female Affairs project. This tour will be presented in Delhi, Goa, Bangalore, Darjeeling and Kolkata from 13 to 22 December 2024.

The Female Affairs India tour kicks-off in Delhi later in December. The very first engagement we would like to present in Delhi would be a 70-minute workshop (for a total of 10 learners) led by Alba on classical music from Spain and it’s influence on women music artists. This workshop will be an introduction of contemporary and classical sound-based practices from Spain and the learners in this workshop could be of mixed gender with practicing knowledge of wind and string instruments. The workshop will end with Alba leading the group in presenting an informal work-in-progress performance.
