The Pillowman
Kaivalya Plays, the only theater group in India with more than 10 years of experience in creating cross-cultural works in Spanish, are currently back with their new production of The Pillowman. The play, written by acclaimed Irish playwright Martin McDonagh, will be performed at India Habitat Center's Stein Auditorium on August 24th and 25th under license from Concord Theatricals. The reason for the project is to bring the work of Martin McDonagh to the Indian public. The power of theater is to connect cultures and promote mutual understanding, and we are confident that "The Pillowman" will resonate with our audiences. The Director of this work is Varoon Anand. Throughout its history, Kaivalya Plays has received more than 20 commissions from the Cervantes Institute and several Spanish-speaking embassies. Its notable projects include a captivating staging of "Funes el memorioso" by Jorge Luis Borges in collaboration with the Embassy of Argentina, an innovative digital work based on the classic "Ollantay" in collaboration with the Embassy of Peru, and a striking interpretation of "A man kicked to death" by Pablo Palacios in collaboration with the Embassy of Ecuador. In addition, they are the first and only group from India to dazzle the public at the Almagro International Classical Theater Festival in Spain with their captivating version of "Marta la piosa" by Tirso de Molina. Its most recent production, titled "ABSURD" presented the genre of absurd theater in Hindi, Spanish and English, with stories by Cuban Virgilio Piñera, "Picnic en Campagne" by Fernando Arrabal and "You have eyes of a woman fatal" by Enrique Jardiel Poncela.
