Galician: a language with its own voice

Instituto Cervantes New Delhi participates once again in the New Delhi World Book Fair, in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in India and Turespaña. On the occasion of Spain-India Dual Year 2026, Spain figures as the focus country for the fair.
The fair, which will be held from January 10 -18, will also host a conference, presented by hispanist and professor Vikash Kumar Singh, which aims to introduce the Galician language and literature to the audience, through a friendly first step into the language—its sounds, simple greetings, and the special place it holds in the hearts of its speakers.
A quick journey through Galician literature, highlighting two beloved poets, Rosalía de Castro and Manuel María, will be presented followed by a reading of short excerpts from their poems, translated into Hindi, that explore themes of homeland, emotion, and resilience. This conference will serve as a unique opportunity for the audience to broaden their knowledge of a rich and diverse language, and to reflect on its role in cultural identity.
