The E Day, the Fiesta of all the Spanish Language Speakers.
Over 500 million people speak Spanish. Why not to turn a day in the year into a worldwide celebration of a language that joins us together? The E Day was conceived as a project of the Instituto Cervantes with the aim of celebrating its growth, increasing the visibility of its centres and spreading the Spanish language culture over five continents at the same time. Since 2009, it is held the closest Saturday to summer solstice. Throughout these years, every centre of Instituto Cervantes – from Sidney to Brasilia- has celebrated the greatness of our language and our cultures on this day. On Saturday, 18th of June, 2011, all the centres of Instituto Cervantes are going to open once again their doors to join the celebration. Moreover, this year we would like this cultural project to bring closer the immense wealth that represents to speak our language to the maximum possible number of people. We would wish to count on Spanish speaking important figures taking part, in order to make all the Spanish Speakers feel proud of both speaking the same language and also being represented by celebrities from the world of arts and culture. We would like to consolidate this celebration as the one of everyone who speak Spanish, to have a day in the year in which to feel linked by a language in common and to share the wealth of the vast culture in Spanish. Join the E Day!
The Spanish is the second language with more native speakers in the world, world’s second language in international communication and the third most-used language on the Internet.
