Studiolo Collection. Candela A. Soldevilla

Studiolo Collection. Candela A. Soldevilla Instituto Cervantes

On the occasion of Spain-India Dual Year, and under the framework of parallel program of the India Art Fair 2026, Instituto Cervantes New Delhi hosts the exhibition “Studiolo Collection. Candela A. Soldevilla” of the “Women-led art collections in Spain” program of the Instituto Cervantes, initiated in 2024 and commissioned by Alicia Ventura, who will attend the opening and present the exhibit to the public.

This exhibition features 40 works by different artists using different techniques, where the head as the creator, container and transmitter of human thought, takes center stage. Throughout history, the head has been constantly represented as a part for the entirety of the individual. The oldest way of representing the human condition is the mask, that is, the idea that the face, made in three dimensions, could act as a representation and substitute of the individual itself during their absence.

In Renaissance Italy of the 15th & 16th centuries, the studiolo was an intimate space within the palace for its owner, dedicated primarily to cultural engagement. This exhibition lets us enter the intimate world of collector Candela A. Soldevilla, and let our thoughts wander to each of the heads represented, experiencing their own story.
