To celebrate Disability Awareness Week, the New Delhi center in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in New Delhi and the Finnish Embassy will screen the film Champions directed by Javier Fesser.
Synopsis: The film is inspired by the story of the Aderes Burjassot basketball team, composed of people with intellectual disabilities, which won twelve Spanish championships between 1999 and 2014, as well as the true story of Ron Jones in the person of Marcos.
Marco is the second coach of a basketball team in the Spanish first division. He has problems at work, with his partner and with almost everything around him. It is, more than anything, a question of attitude towards life.
One day, in the middle of a league match, these frustrations lead to a tremendous fight with the head coach, which leads to a drunken state and a traffic accident that puts him on the bench.
The sentence will lead him to coach a very special basketball team, made up of people with intellectual disabilities and no experience in this sport. At the same time, he loses his job and his relationship breaks up.
What at first is hell for Marco will end up being a gift; an emotional adventure that will change his life forever
