XVII Manila Slient Film Festival
The Manila International Silent Film Festival, which is celebrating its 17th edition this year and is the only one of its kind in Asia, shows silent films from several countries with live musical accompaniment by Philippine bands. In this edition, Spain participates with the film “Gigantes y cabezudos” (1928), with live music by the Philippine band Psychic Surgeons.
Psychic Surgeons are a 5 piece instrumental band with roots in 60’s jazz, hip hop, avant guard, afrobeat, and psychedelic rock. The group focuses heavily on improvisation and touches on many different colors and aesthetics across genres due to their range of influences. Through their eclectic balance of sounds the group delivers dramatic and dynamic live performances, taking the audience through an epic sonic journey that is unique to each performance.
